The first generation (CA-3672) was completed in September 1998. Its sensitivity was low and its specification was not enough for precise observation of the ground motion, and we are improving it since February 2000. During the process, we carried out several observations to check their specifications and to compare with a water-tube tiltmeter that was already put to practical use in many observations. As a result, we have recently completed the new model CA-3917(fourth-generation). The measurement sensitivity of this tiltmeter using a XY magnetic detector is higher than 10-8 radian, and zero point drift is less than 10-8 radian/day. These values are enough to meet the practical requirement for measuring the crust deformation accompanied with volcanic activity.
