内容記述 第1章では、既往研究を整理し、本研究の目的と本論文の構成を提示した。//土壌からの炭素放出の主な形は二酸化炭素ガスであり、土壌呼吸と呼ばれている。土壌呼吸は、温度と水分の影響を強く受ける。各生態系の土壌の土壌呼吸温度水分反応特性は、今後の土壌中カーボンの動態を予測する上で非常に重要である。現地観測も必要となるが、既往研究の多くが地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出測定のみにとどまり、土壌の鉛直分布を考慮に入れていない。//土壌中の二酸化炭素ガス環境形成は、土壌中二酸化炭素ガス生成とその拡散からなる。土壌ガス拡散係数はガスの拡散を記述する上で不可欠の土壌物理パラメータである。これまでの研究では、ガス拡散係数測定は小型サンプルを用いて行われてきた。しかしながら、森林土壌は非常に大きい不均一性を有しているため、より大型の土壌サンプルを用いた測定が必要である。//以上のことを考慮に入れ、本研究では、大型土壌サンプルを用いた実験、野外観測データの解析、土壌中二酸化炭素ガス生成と拡散過程モデリングの3つのアプローチを通じて、土壌中の二酸化炭素ガスの発生と輸送過程を明らかにすることを目的とする。//第2章では、大空隙を含むなどの特徴を有する森林土壌の土壌ガス拡散係数測定法を考案し、内部からの二酸化炭素ガス湧き出しのない砂質土壌・豊浦標準砂に適用した。本システムはサンプルカラム、サンプル上下端のガス拡散チャンバー、境界端二酸化炭素ガス濃度コントロール装置、土壌水分コントロール装置からなる。本実験システムにおいては、土壌サンプルの上下端に人工的にガス濃度勾配を設定し、定常状態下で内部の二酸化炭素ガス濃度勾配および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスフラックスを測定、フィックの第一法則を用いて土壌サンプル内部のガス拡散係数測定を行った。また、広く普及している赤外線式ガスアナライザーをもちいて、少量の土壌ガスの二酸化炭素濃度を測定する手法を考案した。土壌内部は気相が少なくかつ不均一性が高いため、土壌ガスの二酸化炭素濃度の分析には、少量の土壌ガスを分析する必要がある。本実験装置は、大型土壌試料のガス拡散係数の鉛直分布を測定することができる。その結果、豊浦標準砂の空気進入ポテンシャルである土壌水分吸引水頭（ψ）についてψ＝-30cmをすぎたところからガス拡散係数は急激に上昇し、ψ＜-50cmでは一定値となった。土壌水分とガス拡散係数の関係を得ることができた。//第3章では、第2章で考案したシステムを応用し、森林土壌に適用可能な土壌ガス拡散係数および二酸化炭素ガス湧き出し量の鉛直分布測定装置を考案した。ガス拡散係数および二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しは、温度水分の影響を強く受けるため、本システムでは温度および水分をコントロール可能である。本システムは、第2章で考案した装置に、温度コントロール装置を加えた。本システムでは、異なる二つの境界二酸化炭素ガス濃度条件下で定常状態を設定し、内部の二酸化炭素ガス濃度および境界からの二酸化炭素ガスフラックスを測定することで、土壌サンプル内のガス拡散係数および二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しそれぞれの鉛直分布を算定するアルゴリズムを構築した。東京大学千葉演習林袋山沢のスギ・ヒノキ人工林の不攪乱森林土壌に適用し、土壌ガス拡散係数および二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出し量の鉛直分布を測定可能であった。拡散係数・湧き出し量ともに鉛直方向に減少した。また、その結果を用いて、温度の非定常変化に対応して変化する土壌サンプル内二酸化炭素ガス濃度分布と地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスフラックスのシミュレートが可能であった。//第4章では、第3章で考案した装置を、タイ王国チェンマイ近郊の熱帯季節林の森林土壌に適用し、土壌ガス拡散係数および二酸化炭素ガス湧き出し量の鉛直分布、そして二酸化炭素ガス湧き出しの温度反応特性を測定した。熱帯季節林においては、水分が年間を通じて大きく変化するため、観測を通じて水分と二酸化炭素ガス湧き出しの関係を得ることはできるが、温度は年間を通じてほとんど変化がなく、現地観測では温度反応特性は得ることができない。結果、熱帯季節林においても、ガス拡散係数・二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出し量は鉛直方向に減少した。二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出し量は、第3章で行った温帯スギ・ヒノキ人工林の土壌に比べ、各深度で約2倍程度大きい値を示した。また熱帯季節林の土壌も、他の森林と同様に温度に対して指数関数的反応を示した。従来報告例のない東南アジア熱帯季節林の二酸化炭素ガス湧き出し温度反応特性はQ10（10℃の温度上昇に対応した二酸化炭素ガス湧き出しの増加度）が2.2程度のものであった。//第5章においては、東京大学千葉演習林の温帯スギ・ヒノキ人工林およびタイ王国熱帯季節林における野外観測で得られた土壌呼吸および土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度のデータを解析し、各深さにおける二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しの季節性および寄与度をもとめた。観測データの解析により、季節変化、年々変動を含む実体解明を行った。解析は以下のように行った。まず、温度水分データにより各深さのガス拡散係数を推定する。そのガス拡散係数と観測により得られた二酸化炭素ガス濃度からフィックの第一法則を用い、各深さの二酸化炭素ガスフラックスを求める。得られた二酸化炭素ガスフラックスの差が、各深度における二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出し強度である。温帯スギ・ヒノキ人工林、熱帯季節林ともに湧き出し量は深さとともに減少するなど共通点も多いが、次の点で大きい差がみられた。温帯スギ・ヒノキ人工林においては温度がその季節性をコントロールし、各深さの二酸化炭素ガス湧き出しの季節性に大きなずれはなかった。一方で、気温が年間を通じてほぼ一定で雨季乾季を持つ熱帯季節林においては、水分がその季節性をコントロールしていた。土壌からの二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しは水分が多すぎても少なすぎても抑制される性質を持つため、浅い土壌においては乾期には強度の乾燥にさらされ二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しが抑制される一方で、深い土壌においては雨期の過剰な湿潤によって二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しが抑制され、その結果熱帯季節林での土壌中二酸化炭素ガス湧き出しは深度によって季節性が異なるという解析結果が得られた。//第6章では、第3〜5章で得られた結果をもとに、土壌中における二酸化炭素ガスの湧き出しと移動に関する物理モデルを作成した。このモデルは、地表からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出とともに各深さの二酸化炭素ガス濃度分布も再現する。はじめに様々な条件を想定して本モデルの感度分析を行った。モデル中の係数の変化が、土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出に与える影響を評価する感度分析によって、モデルのパフォーマンスがより理解可能となり、現実のデータでは複雑すぎるため不明瞭だった各パラメータと土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガス放出量の関係が明瞭となった。温帯スギ・ヒノキ人工林と熱帯季節林の土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出の再現を試み、良好な結果を得た。温帯スギ・ヒノキ人工林においては、温度が高い夏期に土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出ともに増大した。熱帯季節林においては、土壌水分の高い雨期に土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出が増大した。雨期開始期の立ち上がり、また雨期後期の低下も再現可能であった。一方で、数年に渡る観測結果の再現を通して、土壌中二酸化炭素ガス湧き出し項の分解起源・根系呼吸起源分離や年々変動等に関する今後の課題も抽出できた。//第7章では、本論で得られた知見を整理した。本論によって、土壌ガス拡散係数および二酸化炭素ガス湧き出し量の鉛直分布およびその温度特性が実験的に測定可能となったこと、フィールドデータを解析することで実際の各深度での湧き出し量を定量化し、季節性を推定したこと、さらにモデルを通してそれらの結果を統合的に取り扱い、降雨や温度の季節変化による土壌中二酸化炭素ガス濃度の変化および地表面からの二酸化炭素ガスの放出を長期にわたり再現したことをまとめた。//以上のように、本論文は、土壌中のガスの発生と輸送のプロセスについて新たな知見をもたらしている。
