内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The writer here briefly describes the relation between the geologic structure and the temperature of the hot springs at Atami, in studying which he has reached the following conclusions: 1. The basal complex of the Atami region consists of Neogene andestic tuffite which are blocked by numerous faults, most of them trending NW-SE. 2. It is from these Neogene tuffites that the heated mineral water at this resort mostly originates. 3. The presence of an underground hot mineral water surface, like an ordinary underground water surface, is inferred. 4, This hot underground mineral water: surface shows characters similar to the ordinary underground water surface. 5. As to the temperature distribution of the mineral water, there is a high temperature section, situated en the northern side or the river Hatu. Geologically speaking, it is bounded by a large, fault, trending NW-SE along the valley of Hatu, and dipping steeply northeastward from Kinomiya to Atami-Ginza. On the northern side of this fault, the Neogene tuffites and lavas have decomposed and metamorphosed into solfataric clay, while on the southern side we find exposed a fresh, side, undecomposed tuffite. The former may have decomposed and metamorphosed into solfataric clay and other soluble materials from the effects of heated gases and hydrothermal solutions during the later stage of activity of the Pleistocene volcano of Taga. 6. Some of the highly heated mineral water is probably ordinary underground water heated by the gases and through hydrothermal solution white the others may be juvenile water derived from these gases and from solutions, particularly those that ascend through the faults and the solfataric clay zone. 7. From the tectonic view point, it may not be easy to rejuvenate the famous ""geyser Ooyu"", at Atami, by merely increasing the depth of the boring, without invoking certain other mechanical aids.
