| 内容記述 | Soil specimens taken from core borings in the Koto district of Tokyo, where the ground surface has subsided remarkably owing to shrinkage of the soil layer, was subjected to intermittent pressure of certain strength. With application of pressure, the specimen of the soil deformed, but, upon its release, much of the deformation remained unaltered. Cumulative application of intermittent pressure thus results in permanent deformation. Permanent deformation was found to be affected by the (i) water contents of the soil specimen, (ii) magnitude of pressure applied, (iii) time interval between successive applications of pressure, (iv) physical constituents of soil, i.e., mechanical ratio, etc. The possibility of invoking this result in explaining the phenomenon of ground sinking in the Koto district was discussed. | |||||
