内容記述 | The present article discusses the ancestral rite described in the Shaolao Kuishi and Yousi Che 有司徹 Chapters of the Yili, comparing it with that of the Tesheng Kuishi 特牲饋食 chapter. The Tesheng Kuishi chapter describes the ancestral rite of the shi 士 (“gentlemen”) class of people, while the Shaolao Kuishi chapter deals with the dafu 大夫 (“ministers”) class. The differences in ritual scenarios between them are as follows. First, the emphasis of the Tesheng Kuishi is on the blessings of an ancestor that are distributed by the host (zhuren 主人), among paternal kin (xiongdi 兄弟), and guests (bin 賓), through mutual toasting of wine. In the Shaolao Kuishi, participants do not have direct access to the blessings of the ancestor, who is acted by an impersonator (shi 尸), because the elements of the banquets are separated from those of the offerings to the ancestor as they are placed in the latter half of the rite. The cups of wine do not represent the ancestral blessings carried by the host, but the host’s own favor. Next, the elements of banquets in the Shaolao Kuishi chapter follow the ritual scenarios of the Xiang Yinjiu 郷飲酒 chapter, which deals with annual banquets in regional communities. Furthermore, the descriptions of the Shaolao Kuishi chapter are extremely, or almost eccentrically, detailed compared to those of the Tesheng Kuishi chapter. These facts mean that the former was edited after the latter. Probably, while working out the ancestral rites of high-ranking officials based on the chapters of Tesheng Kuishi and Xiang Yinjiu, the editor put stress on monarch-retainer relations instead of on the kinship relations. It is possible to suppose that these features reflect the devaluation of paternal kinship groups and the importance of the imperial status order in the Zhanguo period when the Yili was edited. | |||||
