内容記述 | What factors constrain Finnish children’s high level of mathematical and scientific literacy? How does each Finnish child solve mathematical problems and how does she/he think about their learning? This study examined Finnish children’s mathematical thinking and their views of learning by using individual interview methods. Finnish 3rd and 5th graders (8 students in each grade) in an elementary school individually solved non-routine mathematical problems which require conceptual understanding and expressions of their variable thoughts, and answered questions which assess their beliefs about learning methods and about learning environments. The results showed that Finnish children tend to think mathematical problems mainly based on their everyday knowledge. They also tend to think both collaboration with others and consideration about thinking processes as important, compared to Japanese counterparts. | |||||
