内容記述 | The purpose of this preliminary study is to examine the importance of community participation in management at Community Learning Centers (CLC) in Cambodia supported by National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ). In particular, its aim is to investigate these three research questions: 1) How do local people participate in managing CLC? 2) What system, if any, supports their participation? 3) What difficulty do they face in participation? By fieldwork and interviews in Cambodian CLC, this preliminary study reveals that: 1) Local people participate in managing CLC as members of the management committee and teachers/facilitators of program. 2) The election of the management committee contributes to form community ownership, and the training for them by NFUAJ helps them to acquire a management skillset so that they can run their CLC by themselves even after the NFUAJ’s support ends. 3) Management committees have three difficulties: coping with both their main job and tasks as members of the management committee, managing a community library, and keeping a good relationship with other local people. Teachers’ problems result from: the uniqueness of the curriculum, the lack of class time, and the gap between students’ learning speeds. |
