内容記述 | This paper examines the Slavonic translation of the “Apocryphal Acts of Peter and Andrew in the City of Barbarians (abbreviated as APA)”, one of the apocryphal acts of Jesus’ apostles, which emerged in the period from the third to the fourth C.E. against the background of the rising cults of apostles in early Christianity. The Slavonic evidence of APA is found in four copies: one full version, written with the Croatian Glagolitic script and dated around 1520, and three Russian fragmental manuscripts, composed from the 12th to the 17th centuries. The Croatian Glagolitic copy is mostly in concord with a Greek recension dated to the 15th century, but its language is vernacularized under the strong influence of the local Čakavian dialect. In contrast, the Russian copies, although fragmental, retain orthographic and lexical features of the Old Church Slavonic texts, indicating that the Slavonic translation of APA appeared no later than the 12th century in the place where the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition was still active. Our critical study of these texts reveals that the four extant Slavonic copies were derived from one common Slavonic source written with the Cyrillic script. The Croatian Glagolitic copy descended from this first translation; furthermore, the Old Russian protograph from which the Russian extant copies were made was derived from this same source. The comparison of the four Slavonic copies and the 15th century Greek copy allows us to conclude that the youngest of the three Russian copies is closer than the two older copies to the Old Russian protograph, whereas the oldest one reflects a version that contains more lexical alterations. | |||||
