内容記述 | In this article, I take up 19AB and 20AB from newly discovered papyrus roll (P.Mil.Vogl.Ⅷ 309). This is an epigram collection of Posidippus who is a Hellenistic epigrammatist of Pella (3BCE). 19AB and 20AB are thought to be strange epigrams in Lithika. The reason is that Posidippus handles mainly gemstones up to 18AB in Lithika, but suddenly he shifts the theme to a rock in 19AB. It seems hymn-like to Poseidon. Furthermore, there is no word about stones in 20AB. Considering about these points, I examine about interpretation, texts and also the positioning in Lithika-seciton about 19AB and 20AB. 19AB is the longest epigram in Lithika. Posidippus makes appear Polyphemus to use the motif of Odyssey and Theocritus’ Idyll. I consider some difficult readings in this epigram. Most of scholars supply μὴ at the beginning of the epigram. But I adopt συλλόγισαι, taking account of Poseidon’s Power. Also Line 9 of 19AB Ἀνταί‹ου› ὁ γυρὸϲ ὀλοίτρ‹ο›χοϲ is point of issue. Many conjectures have been proposed so far, some of which are examined in this article. If we read the text of papyrus as it is, it means “Antaeus’ the rounded boulders”. The meaning is still unclear. But if we recall Theocritus’ Idyll 22.48-50, we can understand the meaning. It is a noteworthy opinion that 20AB has no word concerning stones, but more important point is that already Petrain point out that 20AB is situated in last place in Lithika-section. And it gives the role of a bridge to next section Oionskoptika. I also regard 19AB and 20AB as separate epigrams. |
