内容記述 | This paper gives an overall review of major themes, analytical frameworks, and methodologies discussed in the field of “juku” research. As the government policy changed its attitude toward positive evaluation of cram schools since the 1990s, the research started to focus on some new research themes such as cooperation between schools and cram schools, constructive/ disruptive contribution of the cram school to the whole educational system. These themes were guided by the idea that the evaluation of cram school should be dependent upon whether the school was in line with the purpose of school education. Moreover, many studies focused on the system, while there were only a few ones focusing on the subject, and much less ones on interpretation. | |||||||||
