| 内容記述 | This paper analyzes the social and political dynamics of the gaming industry on Indigenous reserves in Canada in comparison with the growing casino business on the tribal reservations in the United States. Building on the existing literature on Indian casinos mainly in the context of the US cases, this paper articulates the intersection of the economic impacts of gaming business on the First Nation reserves and the settler-settler colonial history and geography in North America. / Because of the isolation and geographical remoteness of Canadian Indigenous communities, they have faced serious issues in terms of attracting visitors and bringing profits. That said, I would argue that the casino industry has still created the economic opportunities, accomplishing the recovery of Indigenous cultural identities and prides. While there is an argument that casino business contradicts with the Indigenous traditions, the communities have explored the possibilities of their economic and cultural survival. / I have utilized local newspaper articles, First Nations’ websites, ethnographic fieldnotes and interviews in addition to various secondary sources in the fields of history, sociology, law, and geography. | |||||||||
