内容記述 | The purpose of the present study is to explore the dynamics of English pronunciation teaching in elementary schools and how the teacherʼs belief concerning foreign language education affects actual instructions and teacherʼs decisions. In this study, the author observed 40 lessons of the 3rd and 4th grades taught by an experienced teacher who was not confident about English pronunciation and had 7 lesson reflection sessions with that teacher. The analysis of classroom discourse showed (1) that typical instructions of that teacher were articulation of segments, relation between sounds and letters, encouraging observation of ALT and that teacher mentioned /th/ sounds of days or date most frequently, and (2) that remarks about praise increased compared with the previous year. Furthermore, narratives on lesson reflection suggested (3) that especially negative experience as a foreign language learner was reflected on teacherʼs belief valuing “open-minded” foreign language activities consistently, and (4) that that teacher had come to judge what sound features should be taught in a lesson autonomously as a long-term change. | |||||||||
