| 内容記述 | The present study was designed with the intent to develop a Beliefs about English Learning Scale and an Emotion-Personality Scale in English Speaking that can measure learners'characteristics more precisely in a context of foreign language acquisition. Based on the studies about beliefs and personality, 24 items were invented for the Beliefs about English Learning Scale, and 10 items for the Emotion-Personality Scale. 360 Japanese junior high school students were asked to participate in the study and to respond to those items. A factor analysis showed that in the Beliefs about English Learning Scale consisted of four sub-categories: namely, 1. perfectionism in English learning, 2. weight on grammar, 3. sense of inferiority in speaking, and 4. orientation to intercultural communication. As for the Emotion-Personality Scale, a factor analysis indicated two subcategories: namely 1. activeness for speaking, and 2. carefulness. The analyses also showed sufficient reliability for both scales. The findings were discussed in terms of implications for developments of new pedagogies of English speaking and suggestions for improvements for further studies. | |||||
