内容記述 1964年3月28日のアラスカ地震にともなう9個の余震のP, PcP, pP, pPcPのスペクトル解析を行なつて,周期1秒程度のP波に対するQの上部マントルと下部マントルでの相違を推定した.地殻の層構造のスペクトルにおよぼす影響はハスケルの方法によつてのぞいた. PとPcP,およびpPとpPcPの相対スペクトル比からマントル全体でのP波に対するQの平均, Qα,の最大値は800と推定される. 870kmより浅い部分のマントルについてのQの平均,Q'α,と870kmより深い部分のマントルについてのQが平均, Q""α,の比, Q'α/Q""α,はたかだか0.3である.今までに推定されているQαとQα/Qβ (Qβはマントル全体についてのS波のQの平均)の関係および,裏面波の減衰から推定される値1.8<Qα/Qβ<2.5を用いると, Qα, Q'α, Q""α,および, Q'α/Q""αの範囲はそれぞれ, 410<Qα<630, 180<Q'α<240, 1600<Q""α<6000,および, 0.04<Q'α/ Q""α<0.12と推定される.
