| 内容記述 | 英語には (a) [NP1 V NP2 Plocative NP3] と (b) [NP1 V NP3 with NP2 ] の交替に参与する動詞が多数存在する。そのような交替のうち、spray/load などの交替（e.g. John loaded hay onto the truck. / John loaded the truck with hay.）は「場所格交替」（locative alternation）と呼ばれ、数多くの研究がなされてきた。しかし、どの動詞が場所格交替に参与するかとなると、定番となるspray/load などの判断は一致するものの、動詞によっては研究者の判断が一致していないものがある。そのような判断のずれには (i) 交替はするが場所格交替として認定するかどうかでずれるもの、(ii) そもそも交替するかどうかで判断がずれるもの、の2 種類がある。本稿は、これまでの研究を再検討し、構文交替の本質を捉えるうえで認知言語学が記述的な道具立て（スキーマ・プロトタイプ）と言語知識のモデル（使用基盤モデル）を提供できることを示す。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | In English, a wide variety of verbs enter into the alternation between (a) [NP1 V NP2 Plocative NP3] and (b) [NP1 V NP3 with NP2]. Examples of this phenomenon involving such verbs as spray and load (e.g. John loaded hay onto the truck. / John loaded the truck with hay.) have been extensively discussed in the literature under the rubric of the “locative alternation.” While linguists generally agree that spray and load participate in this alternation, they are far from unanimous when it comes to (i) whether certain alternating verbs should be classified as locative alternation verbs and (ii) whether some verbs really alternate in the first place. After reviewing the previous studies, this paper argues that cognitive linguistics provides us with the descriptive constructs (e.g. schema/prototype) and basic vision (i.e. the usage-based model of language structure) that we need to figure out what grammatical alternations are all about. | |||||
