| 内容記述 | As Vietnamese belongs to the Hanzi cultural sphere historically, it has a great number of Sino-Vietnamese (referred to as “SV”) words. However, at present, Vietnamese writing system is based on alphabets, therefore it is difficult to distinguish SV words from Vietnamese native words correctly, and Vietnamese native linguistic features have a great effect on SV words. This paper aims to describe such features. The author focuses on Vietnamese mathematical terminology which hasn’t been studied systematically and makes lexical investigations into 582 terms used in 14 secondary mathematics textbooks. The results are as follows: SV words have special nuances when they have a synonym in Vietnamese native words, some monosyllable SV words have new meanings by the abbreviation of dissyllable SV words. Moreover, the author focuses on the lack of uniformity of head directionality in dissyllable SV nouns and investigates the relationship between head directionality and syntactic independence of the two components of those words. The results indicate that the dissyllable SV nouns which have two monosyllable SV words are more likely to be head-initial than those which have at least one morpheme or meaningless syllable. | |||||
