内容記述 | The usage of the term ‘accountability’ today is widely different from field to field, as each of the fields concerned - accounting, economics, business administration, politics, public administration, educational administration and school management - only has its own definition of this term, and the researchers in these fields have ever tried to reach almost no consensus on the essence of this concept, although this lack of effort has disabled us even from discussing ‘accountability’. Thus, this article categorizes those usages and characterizes each of them focusing on the following two points; (1) the constituents of the definitions, such as ‘responsiveness’, ‘answerability’ and ‘sanction’; (2) the relationships among ‘principals’, ‘agents’ and for what the actors are accountable, in terms of principal-agent theory. In the end, this article shows two suggestions - (a) the degree of uncertainty of the ‘principal’ - who is assumed to be ‘the principal’? - may differentiate the usage in politics, public administration, educational administration and school management from that in accounting, economics and business administration, (b) the degree of uncertainty of the ‘agent’ - who is assumed to be ‘the agent’? - may differentiate the usage in educational administration and school management from that in politics and public administration. | |||||
