内容記述 | In this study, we aim to establish a holistic understanding on the professionalism of teachers and schools implementing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) from the perspective of teacher’s competency and school management. A literature review was conducted on the competency frameworks developed by international and national institutions as well as on the empirical studies which identify teacher and school factors to promote ESD. It was revealed that the importance of acquiring ESD competencies as a teacher's own transformational facilitator is emphasized in the international frameworks. In contrast, in Japan, the competencies required of teachers in ESD practice did not clearly mention their role to facilitate transformation of society, and ESD practices in Japan seem not to include sufficiently holistic and pluralistic perspectives. Furthermore, there’s no discussion of administrative support system for teachers and schools to implement ESD. Further theoretical and empirical studies are required for establishing the ESD teacher competency framework, whole-school model and its support system in the unique context of Japan, referring to findings in overseas. | |||||||||||||
